Muiraquitã

Conta-se que as Icamiabas formaram uma aldeia matriarcal nas profundezas da Amazônia. Foram essas as mulheres guerreiras avistadas pelo invasor europeu por volta de 1500 e nomeadas de Amazonas em referência à mitologia grega. Anualmente, elas se encontravam com homens da aldeia vizinha, os Guacaris, para perpetuar a linhagem; os filhos homens eram então devolvidos aos seus pais, enquanto as meninas eram treinadas como guerreiras. Após esses encontros, as Icamiabas mergulhavam no Rio Nhamundá para coletar pedras verdes e fazer amuletos chamados Muiraquitãs, que entregavam para seus filhos como proteção espiritual.

It is said that the Icamiabas formed a matriarchal village deep in the Amazon. These were the warrior women spotted by the European invader around 1500 and named Amazons in reference to Greek mythology. Every year, they met with men from the neighboring village, the Guacaris, to perpetuate the lineage; the male children were then returned to their fathers, while the girls were trained as warriors. After these meetings, the Icamiabas would dive into the Nhamundá River to collect green stones and make amulets called Muiraquitãs, which they gave to their children as spiritual protection.
