Cobra-Grande

Esse é um dos personagens mais intrigantes e fascinantes do imaginário amazônico, especialmente em Belém do Pará, onde ela se entrelaça com a história e a devoção do Círio de Nazaré. Essa história mítica simboliza o poder da natureza e a espiritualidade profunda da região, refletindo a rica tapeçaria de crenças indígenas, africanas e cristãs que compõem a cultura amazônica. De acordo com a lenda, uma imensa cobra, conhecida como Cobra Grande ou Cobra Norato, vive nas profundezas da terra, entre a Catedral da Sé e a Basílica de Nazaré, em Belém. Dizem que essa criatura mítica, de tamanho colossal, se estende subterraneamente entre esses dois pontos sagrados, passando por baixo da cidade. Há quem diga que a Cobra Grande é responsável por pequenos tremores de terra ou por certos eventos misteriosos que ocorrem na cidade. Todo mês de outubro, no Círio de Nazaré a imagem de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré, que é conduzida em procissão do Centro Histórico (próximo à Catedral da Sé) até a Basílica de Nazaré, percorre justamente o trajeto sob o qual a lenda diz que a Cobra Grande repousa. Muitos acreditam que a presença da santa e o fervor dos fiéis durante o Círio garantem que a cobra permaneça em dormência.

According to legend, an immense snake, known as Cobra Grande or Cobra Norato, lives deep in the earth, between the Sé Cathedral and the Nazaré Basilica in Belém. It is said that this mythical creature, of colossal size, extends underground between these two sacred sites, passing under the city. Some say that the Cobra Grande is responsible for small earth tremors or certain mysterious events that occur in the city. Every October, during the Círio de Nazaré, the image of Our Lady of Nazaré, which is carried in procession from the Historic Center (near the Sé Cathedral) to the Basilica of Nazaré, travels precisely along the path where the legend says the Cobra Grande rests. Many believe that the presence of the saint and the fervor of the faithful during the Círio ensure that the snake remains dormant.
